It is a <b>two-level underground structure<\/b> dating back to the second <b>half of the 17th century<\/b> (post-1654 \u2013 pre-1700); while today it is used by the Hotel Parco Borromeo for small, exclusive events, it was originally <b>intended for storing snow and ice<\/b>, which were used to <b>refrigerate food, drinks, and adjacent rooms, or for sanitary purposes<\/b>.<\/p><h4>Architectural structure<\/h4><p class=\"translation-block\">The ice house has a <b>quadrangular layout<\/b> with a <b>circular interior cross-section<\/b>.<br>The <b>main space is an inverted truncated-cone-shaped cavity<\/b>, approximately 5.6 meters deep, with a top diameter of 8.15 m narrowing to 5.35 m at the base.<br><b>Surrounding<\/b> this chamber\u2014at a depth of about ten meters\u2014<b>lies a large circular cellar<\/b>: a ring-shaped passage <b>providing access to the niches where barrels were stored<\/b>. The structure is built entirely <b>of brick and stone masonry<\/b>.<\/p><h4>Historical use<\/h4><p>Durante l\u2019inverno, <b>lo spazio veniva riempito di neve compressa<\/b>, che col tempo si compattava fino a diventare ghiaccio. Questo sistema <b>consentiva di mantenere basse temperature per tutta la stagione estiva<\/b>, garantendo:<br \/>la <b>refrigerazione delle cantine e delle dispense<\/b>, la <b>conservazione di alimenti e bevande<\/b>, la <b>produzione di blocchi di ghiaccio <\/b>da utilizzare nei mesi caldi.<br \/>Inoltre, secondo studi storici, la ghiacciaia era <b>collegata anche alla vinaia del Palazzo<\/b>, servendo come deposito fresco per il vino prodotto nei vigneti locali.<\/p><h4>Discovery and restoration<\/h4><p class=\"translation-block\">The ice house was <b>rediscovered in the 1990s<\/b> during the renovation of the outbuildings located north of the palace. <b>It was completely filled with earth and debris<\/b>, and only after this material was cleared away was it possible to restore the structure to its original form. <b>This discovery was considered pivotal<\/b> to understanding the architectural complexity of Palazzo Arese Borromeo, which <b>integrates visible and
